Celebrating Malbec World Day: Reasons to Love Your Malbec

With April 17 being Malbec World Day, we wanted to give you some great reasons as to why you should love your Malbec. This red wine has recently become popular in the American market. Individuals, rather than sommeliers have grown the popularity of this wine in America, thus leading our country to be over seventy-five percent of Argentina’s wine export.

It is a fruity wine that has its origins in France, but is now mostly produced in Argentina. The growth of this wine thrives in high elevations where the days are hot and the nights are cold, which is why Argentina is a prime location for growth. In a climate as such, it produces more acidity—high acidity in wines lead to the wine lasting longer.

If the taste and context of the wine didn’t give you enough reason to love your Malbec, here are three more reasons:

1. Malbec is a versatile wine that can pair with a multitude of foods. It’s a wine full of dark and juicy berries and a peppery finish. A wine as such pairs deliciously accompanied by foods with depth. Try pairing it with a Cuban Roast Pork (Lechon Asado), Marinated Smoked Duck, or Argentinean-Style Grilled Swordfish with a Spicy-Orange Chimichurri.

2. Malbec is a great red wine to serve at parties or gatherings. With it being a wine that is suitable to enjoy with or without food, it’s perfect for a diverse crowd. And did we mention the price? Malbec is not usually expensive, prices range from $10 to $45.

3. We love a wine that has some extra health benefits. Malbec is rich in polyphenol and is filled with antioxidants—it’s dark purple hue gives this away. Enjoying this red wine in moderation can be thoroughly healthy.

Maybe it’s because it’s not overly produced in America, or because most California winemakers aren’t in the best region to produce it themselves, but Malbec is the wine we love to chase and taste. If you’re looking to get your hands on Whitehall Lane’s exclusive small-batch Malbec, become a member of our wine club. And when April 17 rolls around, lift your glass of Malbec, we’ll be cheers-ing to you in spirit.
